Barry Baker
Managing Director - Operating Partner

Mr. Baker joined Boston Ventures in October 2000 and brings more than 30 years of industry and operating experience to the Firm.  Prior to joining Boston Ventures, Mr. Baker was President and Chief Operating Officer of USA Networks, Inc., where he served as a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.  Previously, Mr. Baker was CEO/Designate at Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., a position he assumed after Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. acquired River City Broadcasting, L.P. in 1996. Mr. Baker founded River City Broadcasting, L.P. (a Boston Ventures portfolio company) in 1989 and served as Chief Executive Officer through 1996.  Mr. Baker currently serves on the Board of Directors of HomePages Holdings, LLC; Backyard Broadcasting Holdings, LLC; and Smith Media, LLC; and is Chairman of the Board of Petty Holdings.  He attended Syracuse University and serves on the Newhouse School of Public Communications Board.

 

Anthony J. Bolland
Managing Director

Mr. Bolland joined Boston Ventures in 1983 and is a founder of the Firm.  He has more than 29 years of banking and principal investing experience.  Prior to founding the Firm, Mr. Bolland was a Vice President of The First National Bank of Boston from 1975 to 1983.  Mr. Bolland currently serves on the Board of Directors of Integra Telecom, Inc.; and Rural Cellular Corporation.  He earned his L.L.B. in Law from Warwick University, England in 1975.

 

Roy F. Coppedge III
Managing Director

Mr. Coppedge joined Boston Ventures in 1983 and is a founder of the Firm. He has more than 32 years of banking and principal investing experience. Prior to founding the Firm, Mr. Coppedge was a First Vice President of The First National Bank of Boston from 1975 to 1983. He joined The First National Bank of Boston in 1975, where he headed the Bank’s U.S. Merchant Banking group. From 1975 through 1982, Mr. Coppedge was a Vice President and Deputy Division Head of the Special Industries Division of the Bank, where he was responsible for major lending relationships in the media and communications industries. Mr. Coppedge currently serves on the Board of Directors of Backyard Broadcasting Holdings, LLC; Rave Reviews Cinemas, LLC; Smith Media, LLC; Vista III Media Holdings, LLC; En-Touch Holdings, LLC; Harron Communications; LP; and SJI, LLC.  He earned his B.A. in History from Harvard College in 1970 and M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1975.

 

Andrew C. Davis
Managing Director

Mr. Davis joined Boston Ventures in 1996 as an Associate and brings more than 16 years of investment banking and principal investing experience to the Firm.  Prior to joining Boston Ventures, he was an Associate in the Media and Telecommunications Group at Lehman Brothers, Inc. from 1994 to 1996. From 1989 to 1992, he was an Investment Banking Analyst at Bear, Stearns & Co., Inc.  He also was a summer Associate in Strategic Planning for the Theme Park Division of Walt Disney Company.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of 21st Holdings Corporation; NorthStar Travel Media Holdings, LLC; Smith Media, LLC; and Petty Holdings .  Mr. Davis earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan in 1989 and M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in 1994.


 

Barbara M. Ginader
Managing Director

Ms. Ginader joined Boston Ventures in 1993 and brings more than 24 years of investment banking and principal investing experience to the Firm. From 1985 through 1992, she was a Managing Director at Bear, Stearns & Co., Inc. (except for 1991, when she was a Managing Director and Head of Chemical Bank’s media group). From 1982 to 1985, she was an Assistant Vice President at The First National Bank of Boston Ms. Ginader earned her B.A. in English and Political Science from Cedar Crest College in 1978 and M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1982.

 

 

Elizabeth Granville-Smith
Managing Director

Ms. Granville-Smith joined Boston Ventures in 1996 as an Associate. She has more than 14 years of investment banking and principal investing experience. Prior to attending business school, she was an Associate at Boston Ventures from 1993 to 1994. Previously, Ms. Granville-Smith was an Investment Banking Analyst at Bear, Stearns & Co., Inc. from 1991 to 1993. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Rave Reviews Cinemas, LLC; BVK Holdings, LLC; and Oakstone Publishing. Ms. Granville-Smith earned her B.A. in History and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991 and M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996.

 

 

Gerald S Hobbs
Managing Director - Operating Partner

Mr. Hobbs joined Boston Ventures in 2005 and brings more than 35 years of industry and operating experience to the Firm.  Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Hobbs was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of VNU, Inc., the world’s leading marketing and media research company.  Mr. Hobbs also served as Vice-Chairman on the Executive Board of VNU N.V. until his retirement in 2003.  Previously, Mr. Hobbs was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BPI Communications, L.P. and its predecessor, Billboard Publications, Inc.  In 1992, he led the acquisition of BPI Communications, L.P. (a Boston Ventures portfolio company).  He also led a management buyout of Billboard Publications, Inc. (a Boston Ventures portfolio company) in 1984.  Mr. Hobbs started his career with Procter & Gamble, where he served in various capacities from 1966 to 1969.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of BNA, Inc.; New Track Media; Medley Global Advisors Holdings, LLC; and Western Institutional Review Board, and is a member of the Supervisory Board of VNU, N.V.  He attended New York University and the American Institute of Banking.

 

Vikrant Raina
Managing Director

Mr. Raina joined Boston Ventures in 1999 as a Director and brings more than 17 years of investment banking, strategic consulting, and principal investment experience to the Firm.  Previously, he was an Executive Director in the Communications, Media, and Technology Group at Goldman Sachs (Asia), LLC from 1997 to 1999.  From 1994 to 1997, he was a Project Leader at The Boston Consulting Group, Inc.  From 1990 to 1992, he was an Associate at The Boston Consulting Group, Inc.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of HomePages Holdings, LLC; WIRB Group Holdings, Inc.; SSI Holdings, LLC; and Medley Global Advisors Holdings, LLC.  Mr. Raina earned his B.S. in Computer Science from Yale University in 1990 and M.B.A. in 1994 from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, where he was a Baker Scholar.

 

James M. Wilson
Managing Director

Mr. Wilson has been a managing director of Boston Ventures since its formation in 1983.  Prior to that, he was a vice president of First Venture Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of Bank of Boston Corporation, and had an active role in initiating, structuring and monitoring First Ventures’ 1982/83 investments and in realizing prior investments.  Jamie received his M.A. degree from Cambridge University, England in 1974.
